After graduating from Oregon State with a degree in broadcast media communications, Mary Fetsch’s first job was in public affairs at KOIN-TV. After stints as producer of KATU’s “Town Hall” program and news producer at KGW, Mary became the campaign press secretary, and then press secretary, for Elizabeth Furse after she was elected to the US House of Representatives.
With her continued love of public policy issues, Mary worked for 22 years at TriMet as both their Communication Director and Media Relations Officer. Now owner of Fetsch Strategic Communications, she provides expert strategic communications, crisis communications, media training, and guidance for policy/political issues and campaigns.
Bob Thompson, Class of 1976
Bob Thompson was a member of the varsity baseball team before graduating from Grant High in 1976. He earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Telecommunications and Film, with an emphasis in Broadcast Management, from the University of Oregon in 1980.
Bob entered the cable television business in 1981 with Storer Cable Communications. Eight years and five relocations later he left Storer and moved to the programming side of the business.
Bob spent 20 years in a variety of executive positions at Liberty Sports and FOX Sports Networks. He was named President of FOX Sports Networks and FOX Sports International in 2000, where he was responsible for oversight of FOX’s domestic and international sports networks. Bob received a national Sports Emmy for executive producing the show SportsScience in 2008. He retired from FOX in 2009.
Bob served on the board of directors of the Golf Channel, Big Ten Network, Rogers SportsNet in Canada, FOX Pan American Sports, Mobile TV Group, and the Colorado Rockies Baseball Club.
He remains involved in the sports and television world through his company Thompson Sports Group, but mostly enjoys playing golf at his Scottsdale, Arizona home.
